Bernardo De Leon, was the youngest of four brothers, his father was a Britain who was the Captain of a small merchant ship, it was there that he met his wife, Bernardo's mother. She was the head mistress of a fabric company that she and her late husband started in hopes of designing for the Queen; but that fell through when her husband succumbed to Consumption (tuberculosis). When Bernardo was five his mother sent him with his father to Britain, where he would meet his fathers family and learn a new life and have what was considered, 'proper' up bringing. Then in 1519, the expeditions began in Spain, with Hernán Cortés leading the way. Bernardo talked his father into letting him go and find his place in those expeditions, and in the process learn of his roots and his people from his mothers side, the Spaniards. It was in 1523, that Bernardo finally had his chance, he quickly signed up to be one of the many conquistadors stationed within Peru, and soon, into the new Americas.

It was a dangerous journey fraught with Civil war, wild Jungles, and many new diseases, not to mention supplies of food and water running low. It was at this juncture, in the rich Jungle of Peru, that the small expedition he was with, about 46 men in total, began to fall ill with Dysentery. They had little means to keep foods fresh and the water they gathered was from open streams and some small lakes. As the men began to dwindle and the expedition took back seat to survival, a handful took on the responsibility of seeking help. Seven men would pack what they could and find the highest peak, that they may survey the land, in hopes to spy a village of some sort nearby. The mountain range was more vast then any of them realized and they began to die off one by one from the strenuous trek. Finally Bernardo too, could no longer hold on, as he lay there staring up to the starry skies, he thinks of his mother and his father, tears rolling down his cheeks, but the adventure of life was a good one, and he was ready to let go.

At that moment he felt someone handling him and a voice, “Hold tight friend,” was heard in a soft and gentle tone... Later Bernardo found himself in a small hut that went back into a cavern, and there was a little old man stirring some stew. As he sat up someone arrived next to him at such a speed that he fell back onto the bed, his eyes peering up to a young looking Peruvian, “I have saved your life.. and now, I must ask a favor in return.” As the young man spoke, Bernardo just caught the end of tentacles sliding beneath his long tunic. “No, NO!” Bernardo began to yell out, trying to slide back away from his capture, but the attempt was futile, and the favor was taken. So, in the year 1524, at the age of twenty-three, Bernardo was turned at the grip of this Peruvian Sorcerer, and vampiric being; and in 1526, he escaped Peru and swore never to return, though now wherever he went, he looked back over his shoulder. Was he being followed, was the Vampiric being hunting him? Bernardo did his best to bury the past and move forward, he found a life and income in antiquities, and this kept him traveling as well... and now he is in Wailing Rock.

This expensive, and sturdy card appears in the junk mail of Wailing Rock residents. For the common folk its a nice card for scooping up dust with the broom, but for others it may show some deeper interest. On the opposite side is the address and phone number, with the name, Bernardo De Leon.

WHEN HARRY MET, BERNARDO..
Bernardo had started his life anew, not just as a citizen, but as a Vampire, so the world was a wonderland of mystery as he grew to understand it again. It was three hundred years later that he would be-friend, Henry Longfoot, and they became good friends. Regardless to what had transpired in the past between Vampires and Lycans, the Island was now smoothed over with balance; and the races began to find their places. Some had awoken out of the Aethers, while others seemed to be called by the ley-lines and its energy. Bernardo arrived because of that call, his Peruvian, Master, had a profound understanding of the ley-lines and how they can be worked to expose hidden place and even peoples, in some cases. Though Bernardo took it all in, it was not his interest, his interest was getting out, which he did in 1526. It was his traveling afterwards that brought him to the Mysterious Island of Wailing Rock, that, and his new occupation of, Antiquities. While on the Island he friended a few folks, and as mentioned, one was Harries grandfather. Harry was a frequent visitor to his granddad, full of questions at nine years old, about the stories he was told around the campfire and at his bedtime. Bernard took a shine to the young Lycan, and was there for he and his granddad, when Harries parents were lost in a house fire. It wasn't too long after that, that Harry would look to Bernardo as a father figure, not just another super, but someone he could rely upon and learn from.
Bernardo felt the same about Harry, and with his grandfather, together, they would guide Harry on survival and how to fit in with a good job. When Harry was ready for College, Bernardo made sure he had the best that money could buy, with a house, a car, and spending money for his personal time. Later Harry decided to be a Forest Ranger, and studied that for, four more years, in order to attain his own station. Which he did, and later was able to get a transfer to Wailing Rock, which is where, in his heart, he belonged. Bernardo ever watchful of the young Lycan and his needs, but Harry, was very independent by then, and asked nothing from his dear friend, Bernardo. Harry and Bernardo were so close, that Harry took a few personality traits from Bernardo as he grew up, and Bernardo even called him 'son', once or twice in their ever growing relationship.
In the recent weeks of 2019, Harry was on the mainland for advanced Ranger training, and to spend some long over do time with, Bernardo. It was four of them, all old friends, just enjoying an evening out on the town, it wasn't until they left town and headed out into the country, that they realized they were be followed. They drive along quietly, behaving as normal humans would, until the shot rang out, and the crack of the back windshield made it shatter. Thomas was hit in the neck, and the bullet split open to release its toxin, sterling silver, which bled into his blood stream, making him immobile, and it would eventually kill him. Harry leaped from the car at the next turn, while Bernardo and Crystal lured the pursuer's on down the road a bit. Once they handled the two passengers from the car they backtracked to find Harry grappling with six men. Two were on him, the others holding weapons ready to be fired. Bernardo wasted no time in reaching them with his Vampire speed, he tore ones head back with a quick 'snap'. Another, he plunged his hand into, gripping the heart and squeezing the life out of it, then three shots were fired, two struck Bernardo at the abdomen and chest, small, runed, stakes. They didn't hit the heart; but it was enough to slow him down, the third shot was a direct hit to Harry in the belly, and yes, it was another silver one. Bernardo let out a howl of a scream as he went to Harry, who was holding his gut, feeling the silver infiltrate his blood stream. It was then that Crystal, raised her arms out and warped the immediate area, confusing the hunters, she then filled them with a black ooze like substance, they choked and gagged and as they fell, they fell right through the earth as if it was an illusion... She had devoured them whole, leaving no trace.
It was too late, Harry was slipping into shock, his body was shutting down.. “Harry,” was all Bernardo could say as he cradled the young man. Harry held his hand up, the one with his family heirloom, his great great, grandmothers ring. Bernardo understood, he just hugged Harry, held him close and tight, until the Lycan finally expired.
“How did they know.. How did they know?” He kept looking at Crystal, those would be the words to haunt them both now, and with their connections, they would find out at some point, how those human hunters knew, where they would be, and what each of them were....
LINEAGE OF THE LIZARD - El Rey Lagarto (The Lizard King).
After Bernardo's was turned by the Reptilian, Vampire in 1524, he was subjected to many surreal journeys, through the power of blood magick. His master, made Bernardo believe he was hatched from an egg as a young reptilian being, and was brought up to feast on the blood of local villages. Peyote and a mixture of herbs took Bernardo deep into the astral workings of the mind and the soul, it was here he touched upon the void aspect of being. Though he never entered the void, its presence was there, as was the stirring of other beings, more powerful beings. In his visions he could hear the coiling and slithering of flesh like things, in the darkness, the movements rippling through the spirits journey, each ripple showing Bernardo an aspect of the Reptilians. It was via these dream states that Bernardo would learn to transform into the Lizard; this was both terrifying and inspiring to the young, Conquistador, but he knew he needed to escape, to get away, lest he be devoured forever within this madness. 1526, came the opportunity for that escape, when a new expedition came into Peru and began to mold the local villages into a more modern setting for the times. This made his master recoil, and that, was the moment, Bernardo, took to flee from Peru.
Though a hundred or so years later, Bernardo did take on the image of the Lizard as his lineage. His master took him on many dark journeys, but, he could not deny, that he also saved his life and gave him many new perspectives on 'life' itself. So, to this day, Bernardo carries that Lizard lineage within himself as a homage to his master, and the original Vampire, one of the thirteen that it stems from. It is this embrace that his own clan took form, a few here and there, around the world, kept quiet and in secret.
