General Rules

NO METAGAMING. Metagaming is using knowledge you gained OOCly and using it to your advantage in IC roleplay.

NO GODMODDING. Godmodding is forcing other people's actions without their consent.

NO POWERGAMING. Powergaming is developing your character in a way that makes you unbeatable in combat.

CONSENT. If you are planning to do something that would alter the course of character roleplay for other players, you must have their consent to do so. Rape is permitted only when all parties have given OOC consent. Consent can be revoked at any point in time.

HARASSMENT. We have a zero tolerance policy regarding the maltreatment of our players and staff. If you have been harassed, please contact staff immediately, that we may assist you in a timely manner. Not sure if you should submit a ticket to Sim Support? Please review this document prior to logging a complaint.

THREE STRIKES. First time is a warning, second time is a warning with a three-day kick, and third warning will be your final strike, and you're out. We will not tolerate blatant breaking of the rules, or disrespect of any kind toward our players or our staff.

ADULTS ONLY. Wailing Rock is an Adult-rated sim. No child-like avatars, no children, no age-play. If your avatar looks questionable in appearance, you will be approached by Sim Support! Failure to comply with staff direction will result in parcel ejection/ban, and Linden Labs will be contacted. For more in-depth information, please visit us in Second Life.

SEX. Sex is allowed. Just be aware that if you are in a public place, your privacy is not guaranteed, nor should it be expected. Rape is permitted only when all parties have given clear consent; consent can be revoked at any time.

ATTIRE. Wailing Rock is a modern supernatural roleplay experience. Generally, you are free to wear whatever you feel is appropriate for your character in the modern age! You may come as you are for a tour, but observers are expected to be respectful of ongoing roleplay. Visit our Welcome Center for ideas and suggestions - our staff is always ready and happy to assist.

LEGACY AGE. No avatar under 30 days will be permitted on sim. No exceptions.

ACCEPTING IC CONSEQUENCES. You CANNOT force a person into a fight if they OOCly wish to opt out. On the flip side, this is not something to hide behind if you wish to go around insulting people or causing trouble. Expect people to react - no excuses. This falls under "play stupid games, win stupid prizes". Additionally, if your character starts a fight, you are now obligated to see that scene through to the end. Should you refer back to the ability to 'opt out', your roleplay will be voided, and you will receive an official conduct warning from Sim Support. Remember - IC actions have IC consequences. Period.

FIGHTING AND CRIMINAL ACTIVITY. Criminal Activity can and will happen in Wailing Rock. However, as a compliment to the above statement regarding consequences, Wailing Rock has provided players with supplemental documentation regarding fighting, and IC consequences for IC criminal activity.

THE FOLLOWING ARE PROHIBITED: voicing, spam gestures, pushers, dancers, obscene/gratuitous sounds (heels, pets, etc), age play, spell huds, no furries/nekos/anime/cartoon characters, no kitsune, gods or demi-gods without Sim Support consent, no ICly meddling with time, going AFK in a RP area, entering occupied residential homes without consent.

REQUESTS FOR ASSISTANCE. Please use the "Help Desk Ticket" link on the Forms page. If you have an emergency, please contact staff via Discord.

EDUCATE YOURSELF. Being ignorant of the rules of conduct in Wailing Rock will not be considered a valid excuse for blatant disregard of the rules and lore. It is the players' responsibility to educate themselves.

Rules are firm. No exceptions. Thank you for understanding!

Masquerade and You

So, you're considering applying to Wailing Rock and when you do, you will need to check a box that states you have read all of the rules, and that you agree to the conditions created by our lore. One of those conditions is that you maintain masquerade - that is, that as a supernatural being, you do not expose yourselves to humans.

But then you think, I'm going to see what happens. Well let me tell you what happens: You die. You die horribly. Along with everyone involved.

Let's think about this logically. You saunter down the street in full view. Yes, you're big and strong, and yes, you might be faster. But you're outnumbered. You're outnumbered by humans who have guns, fire, and the ability to walk in the daylight.

Then all hell breaks loose. Let's say you live - a massive hunt begins, and humans take out anything that even looks questionable. It becomes the top headline on news outlets worldwide. Or, let's say they find you and kill you. They put your body on display. The federal government swoops in and takes your body to Area 51. Worldwide news coverage. Who knows. Either way, you've irrevocably altered the course of humanity, forever.

It's 2019, we're in Washington state. The SL world we exist in is as close to the RL world as possible.

Maintain the masquerade.

Roleplay Etiquette

ALWAYS EMOTE (/me)! To communicate and interact with your neighbors (IC) in Wailing Rock, you should always try to emote. This means you should use the /me command, followed by your thoughts, feelings, actions and speech (in quotes). Below is an example:

If a player types:

/me stepped outside, taking in the crisp morning air. She tucked a wisp of hair behind her ear, and grinning, she thought to herself, "It looks like it's going to be another beautiful day in Wailing Rock!".

It would look like this, in local chat:

Beth stepped outside, taking in the crisp morning air. She tucked a wisp of hair behind her ear, and grinning, she thought to herself, "It looks like it's going to be another beautiful day in Wailing Rock!".

USING DOUBLE PARENTHESES FOR OOC CHAT ((.....)). There may be times you wish to communicate something OOC to a group - thank them as you post out, ask a question, etc. The proper way to do this is to enclose your OOC speech in double parentheses. Below are examples:

((TY for the scene, it was fun!))

((Sorry, what's the PO?))

TAKE TURNS. Roleplay is a turn-based activity! When someone posts, you should respond with a single post, then wait for your turn to respond again. If there are multiple players involved, take your turns in order. This allows everyone a chance to respond to a situation before it is your turn to post again. Busy locations, such as restaurants and bars, may have a more lax posting order to allow workers to better serve and private conversations to ensue. When in doubt, simply ask.

PLAY FAIR. As stated in the rules, roleplay is consensual. If your character is interacting physically with another, every action you post must always be an attempt, or what you are trying to do to the other player. This gives the other player flexibility and chances to either accept or deflect what you are trying to do to them. Combat and forced scenes are especially handled this way.
