Some say she was cursed. Cursed to have hair as light as the moon and skin as pale as snow, with eyes that would struggle to see in the light. Growing up with these characteristics, she was heavily ostracized from society, leaving her extremely sheltered for her human years.
Eventually, she was blamed for several attacks that took place over time. The population slowly dwindled, more and more people and animals winding up dead in the forests around her village. Having no one else to blame, they blamed her. Rumors that she was cursed by witches, born under a foul moon, and possessed by demons were quickly spread around, causing the townsfolk to hunt her down. Ophelia was tortured and left for dead upon a wintry new moon. Her body was left in the snow to rot.
"𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒗𝒊𝒍𝒍𝒂𝒈𝒆𝒓𝒔 𝒉𝒂𝒅 𝒍𝒆𝒇𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒅, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒐𝒘𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍 - 𝒂𝒏 𝒂𝒏𝒈𝒆𝒍 𝒐𝒇 𝒅𝒆𝒂𝒕𝒉."
Enter Nicholas Warren, the vampire responsible for it all. He happened to stumble upon her body during a hunt, almost missing her completely if not for the blood staining her skin. He was so enraptured with the contrast of bright red blood against such pale skin that he underwent the task of embracing her.
She was sired to become his life partner, his right hand woman, and eventually his wife. Nicholas guided her as she transitioned and adjusted to her new life. They grew to be wild together, destroying village after village and evading hunters for sport. He became everything, her savior and her personal hell all in one. She remained at his side always, even when they migrated to America and settled in the west coast.
"𝑺𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓 𝒉𝒊𝒎, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘 𝒘𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒃𝒆𝒈𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒇𝒐𝒓. 𝑯𝒆 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒔𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒖𝒓, 𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒘𝒂𝒚𝒔 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒅𝒊𝒅 𝒏𝒐𝒕 𝒆𝒙𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕."
Her personal hell soon became too much for her to handle, and Ophelia fled. She fled his nest, traveling clear across the country to try and get away. In the early 1900's, she settled in New York City, using her trades as a pianist to get her by. It was because of her musical talent that she got hired by Esther Gillespie, a ballet teacher. Ophelia would play the chords as Esther taught, and the two grew to be very close.
Still, nothing could ease the loneliness she felt from being away from him. Part of her missed Nicholas. Craved him. He was all she knew in this life.
"𝑰𝒏 𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒇𝒐𝒖𝒏𝒅 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈. 𝑨 𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒅𝒓𝒆𝒅 𝒔𝒑𝒊𝒓𝒊𝒕. 𝑨 𝒗𝒊𝒐𝒍𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒉𝒆𝒍𝒍. 𝑬𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒘𝒂𝒔 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒆 𝒕𝒐 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓, 𝒂𝒏𝒅 𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒚 𝒃𝒖𝒓𝒏𝒕 𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒉 𝒐𝒕𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒖𝒑 𝒂𝒕 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓𝒚 𝒐𝒄𝒄𝒂𝒔𝒊𝒐𝒏."
Esther swiftly became a dear friend, that in the summer of 1910, Ophelia embraced her, guiding her through as she adjusted to her new-found vampirehood. Ophelia was stern like Nic, but she was also softer. Esther and Ophelia remained together in New York for decades, with Ophelia reverting back to her maiden name to remain further detached from Nicholas Warren.
Of course, all things came to an end. Ophelia and Esther were caught, their photo appearing in the newspaper after Esther's first showing of 'Swan Lake'. Nicholas and his newest lover were in town for reasons unknown to his estranged wife, but when he found her, he forced her to come home.
She agreed, with one exception. Esther was to come with her.
Nicholas instantly agreed, however remaining as a nest throughout the years was challenging, mostly due to the constant animosity between Nicholas and Ophelia. Regardless, they stuck it out, traveling from city to city and settling over the years.
One thing was sure amongst them, no matter the turbulence.
Family was always first.
