In 2000 her family moved to the United States because of her father's military service. The Rowlands lived in San Diego up until Jeremiah was dishonorably discharged from the Navy in 2006. After years of being stuck between a rock and a hard place, a family that wanted her to deny what she was and a coven that had begun to behave more like a cult, Shae packed what little she had into a rental car and fled in the cover of night with the aid of several protective spells, and an impending storm.

In all honesty, the life of an urban nomad came easily to and suited Tinashe, she had neither the ability or desire to settle down; being a rolling stone gave her the freedom to find, define, and accept herself.
