Cadey grew up in Seattle. Lucky enough to have had a pretty happy upbringing, and a well provided for and supported life. Her family were nice enough people . Her childhood pretty standard she had always had a busy social calendar and attended many extra curriculear activities. She was a good student, above average even. She had a small group of best friends and lived in middle class oblivion, was active and well behaved.....for well many years. Sounds pretty great, for all intents and purposes. But Cadence always felt a little like something was wrong. A weird feeling, crawling in her stomach. She had the perfect life and yet sometimes as she sat in the midst of it, it didn't feel like hers at all. Sometimes.... sometimes she felt like all of the people around her were impersonators or maybe that she was. So although she had a pretty sweet set-up, she had always been living on this weird feeling, almost like she was holding her breath or dreaming. Outside of that odd feeling, since childhood Cadence had seen people nobody else saw. Like saw them, spoke to them....and yet people were really mad or scared if she talked about these other people. She soon realised she was the only person who could see them and her mother encouraged her to not talk to other people about her 'imaginary friends.' So she did not. Her mother asked her not to talk to the people or 'friends' anymore either, this Cadey did not comply with but did learn to not to do so in public/front of others.
When Cadey began to tell them what they were feeling or what others felt they asked her not to talk about that too. When she had strange dreams or random 'episodes' as they called them, usually related to the 'imaginary friends' , they also asked her not to talk about those things.... for a short time they also medicated her in her early teens. Cadey learned to really not tell anyone about any of those things. Instead she turned to the internet. To the bookstore. To practicing spells alone in the woods. She researched on the abilities she had, had since childhood. She also then ventured into learning more about what she could do. The label Witch didn't really come into her mind at first. She just thought she was odd or maybe 'psychic'. She spent a few summers out in the forests most of the time or at libraries, she grew more distant from her parents and other people and lived in a world of her own. She didn't fit in to her parents shiny world all that well. She could attend the events , smile, dance..... be the adoring daughter. But her smile rarely met her eyes. She began drinking and smoking to escape the feelings she was lost and alone, that she was a freak and the bitter feeling of resentment that had started to grow for the people around her because she did love them. But the sensation of not being like everyone else and not being able to be herself began to overwhelm her at times. She learned to live between the world of the living and the dead though found it hard to be able to tell which was which sometimes . She graduated high school somewhere in the top of her class.
Then attending the University of Washington School of Medicine as her parents wanted, She made friends with a girl there who claimed she was a witch. This was very interesting to Cadey. As their friendship grew Cadey came to the realisation and acceptance that she too was a Witch. She was taken into her friends coven and med school became a lot less tedious. Cadey was coming into her powers and herself. With the freedom offered out on her own two feet she flourished . Though the coven did take over and classes took a back seat at times. Cadey's parents and their pretty life seemed to be getting a little complicated and less pretty after all and they seemed to be arguing whenever she visited home. For her 21st birthday there was a huge event [of course] and well.... her father had left before it even finished after a fiery row had erupted between her parents. Her mother was drunk and had been rambling on as Cadey tried to get her to bed, perfect way to end your 21st birthday right? As she settled her into bed, her mother complained about her father cheating on her with his secretary Moira, that he was a selfish man, always had been and that he had never even let her tell Cadey that she was adopted. Her mother now pitifully crying and too drunk to really even tell her daughter more fell asleep....
Cadey's world was blown apart. And as mind blowing as it was......it actually made sense. Things slotted into place. Finally. That she had never looked strongly like either parent. That sensation she didn't feel like she belonged. The powers.....her parents poor reaction to those powers and abilities. But also she felt lost, confused and like she didn't know who she was. Happy Birthday Cadence.
Her mother refused to acknowledge or talk about that night and conversation at first. Cadey had gone back to school for the rest of the semester. As she tried to process what she had learned. Eventually she went home as the summer break began. She demanded her mother to talk to her about it and as the broken women spilled out her story she really had very little to give Cadey , only the place where she had been adopted from.
She set off to the town in hopes of finding answers. Some idea at least of where she had come from. Maybe some sort of knowledge about who her biological parents had been. That place was ....... Wailing rock.
