Granuaile had been shocked when she opened her door to find a green bicycle leaning against it and a note saying it was a gift from her neighbor. She'd ridden it around the campground, giddy with glee, and then set about adding a basket to it for groceries. Sure, biking up the mountain might not be faster than walking, but biking down it....oh how she loved that. Like flying without the wings, even if some of the drivers around the town were less than willing to share the road.
Even better, it didn't make her sick like cars or motorcycles or boats or airplanes or any of the other ways she'd traveled tended to do. She also liked that it gave her an easy way to escape. If someone tried to grab her when she was on her bicycle she could just crash it into the nearest tree and, with a little luck, vanish into it.
Yes. She adored her new bicycle, considered giving it a name, even, though nothing had occurred to her yet.
